TO A MORE ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY CSF

Manong Dong Gualberto and Mr. Valmar Valdez, City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Chief, headed a virtual meeting with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in connection with One Planet City Challenge (OPCC).
OPCC is a campaign where cities’ climate actions and ambitions are reviewed by an international jury of urban sustainability experts.
The City of San Fernando is one of the 16 cities in the Philippines to qualify for OPCC. This is also the city’s first time to participate in the said environmental challenge.
OPCC invites cities all over the world to accelerate their climate transformation in order for people to live in balance with nature now and in the future, in accordance with the Paris Agreement, a legally binding international treaty on climate change.
Other attendees of the virtual meeting were City Councilor and Chairman of the Environment Committee Rizalde Laudencia; WWF representatives Ms. Gia Ibay, Ms. Imee Bellen, and Ms. Mary Jane Alvarez; Mr. Ric Marfiga of ICLEI; Mr. Steven Angelo of OCVM; and CENRO staff.
Joining this challenge is a way for CSF to become a more environmentally sustainable city in the years to come and a way to help mitigate climate change and its effects on people’s lives, health, and livelihoods. #SanFernandoTayo
